Virtual Reality (VR) technology is a vital tool in the promotion of medical education informationalization. Currently, extensive researches and practices have been carried out on the application of VR technology to medical education by a large number of overseas research institutes and commercial corporations, and great achievements have been made. In our country, many follow-up studies have also been done in the medical circles. So how to introduce VR technology into the medical instruction area has become a common attention problem in the field of medical education and educational technology. This research made an in-depth analysis in the principal contradiction of present medical instruction. On the basis of understanding the meaning, classification and current research situations at domestics and aboard of VR, the author put forward efficient ways to improve the traditional teaching methods by means of constructing medical virtual teaching system, and the effect and efficiency of instruction can be improved. By means of Information Processing theory, Knowledge Management theory and Cognition Flexibility theory, this research discussed the designing ideas and approaches. From the perspective of practical researches, the researcher independently developed the virtual teaching system of"Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture"with a kind of VR exploitation tool-Virtools, to meet the need of teaching the Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture in Chinese Medicine. This system has got a good assessment after putting into practical teaching use. After systematical theoretical studies and practical researches, the design principles of developing medical virtual teaching system have been summarized. Meanwhile, the design and development of the virtual teaching system of"Wrist-Ankle Acupuncture"has not only set a rewarding attempt but also put forward a concrete solution in trying to introduce VR as a new teaching method into medical instruction.
