Objective: This study compared the sonographic features between the gestational sac of extrauterine and the corpus luteum for improved detectiong of early ectopic pregnancy. Methods: Retrospective review of sonograms of 92 cases of unruptured ectopic pregnancy and 104 cases of the corpus luteum. Results: There was small follicular in periphery of (59.6%) of 104 corpus luteum compared with none of gestational sac of extrauterine (P<0. 01), (58.7%)of 92 ectopic walls were more echogenic than the endometrium, compared with only 1 case of the corpus luteum (P<0. 01). (90.8%) of 65 ectopic walls were more echogenic than the ovarian tissue, but (88.3%) of 94 corpus luteum walls were equal to or less than the ovarian tissue(P<0.01). Conclusions: the gestational sac of extrauterine was an extra-ovarian adnexal cyst on sonography and with more echogenic wall than endometrium or ovarian tissue.
