Objective: To observe the percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS) therapy in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease caused by artery stenosis and its outcome. Assess the efficiency and safety of the method. Method: Retrospective review 19 patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease performed PTAS in the first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from match, 2003 to February, 2007.20 stents were placed in 19 patients. Bayaspirin Enteric-coated (300mg, qd) and Clopidogrel Hydrogen Sulfate Tablets (75mg, qd) were given orally and started one week before the treatment procedure for the patients. Perform CT or MRI scan of the head to avoid other intracranial parenchymal disease and take CTA or Doppler sonography and DSA to make sure the degree of the vascular stenosis. Antiplatelet drugs were given orally routinely after operation. DSA was performed after one week of the operation. NIHSS was performed in all cases when they were at preoperation and one week after operation. Results: There was a technical success of 100% with 19 cases. The degree of stenosis significantly decreased to less than 20%. During perioperation, the symptoms disappeared or ameliorated in 17 cases, and the rate is 89%. 2 cases suffered ipsilateral stroke after operation, and the rate is 11%. The NIHSS scores decrease in turn of preoperation, one week after operation. There is significant difference analyzed by statistics. Conclusion: PTAS can significantly ameliorate the neural function defectiveness of the patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease. The technical successful rate of operation is high, while the incidence of complications is low. The short-outcomes are satisfactory. It's a safe and effective method. The mid to long-term outcomes need to be further studied.
