ObjectiveTo study the effects of low power microwave on the reproductive system of male mice and related mechanism.Methods1 Impact of low-power microwave radiation on the reproductive system of male mice48 adult male mice were randomized into 3 microwave groups and 1 control group, each has 12 animals: microwave groups was exposed to microwave frequency level of 900 MHz (250μW/cm2 ,150μW/cm2,50μW/cm2, 24h/d,34.5 d) and control group was not exposed to any microwave. Mice were free-sports during exposure to the microwave. The sexual function (capture incubation period (CIP), capture times(CT)), the body mass change, testis-weight, epididymis-weight, testis-weight ratio, epididymis-weight ratio ,the pathomorphological changes of testis , sperm comparative counting ,and sperm malformation ratio were used to detect the effects of the low power microwave.2 Study of the mechanism of the effects of low-power microwave radiation on the reproductive system of male miceWith the same method of Method 1 to deal with mice. Serum testosterone , total serum cholesterol ,the cyclic adenosine monophosphate , and cytochrome p450 cholesterol side chain catenase were used to detect the relevant mechanism of the male reproduction toxicity of the low power microwave.Results1 Effects of low-power microwave radiation on the reproductive system of male mice150μW/cm2 microwave exposure can induce slight pathomorpho- -logical changes of the testis, compared with the control group. Sperm comparative counting was significantly decreased (P<0.05). CIP and sperm malformation ratio of microwave group were significantly increased compared with those of the normal control group (P<0.05, respectively) . But the change body mass , testis-weight, epididymis-weight, testis-weight ratio, epididymis-weight ratio had no significant difference compared with those of the control group(P>0.05, respectively).2 Study of the mechanism of the effect of low-power microwave on the reproductive system of male miceCompared with the serum testosterone of the control group, those of the microwave group (150μW/cm2 )was significantly decreased (P<0.05). The total cholesterol, cytochrome p450 cholesterol side chain catenase of microwave group (150μW/cm2 ,250μW/cm2)were significantly decreased (P<0.05, respectively) .But the the cyclic adenosine monophosphate had no significant difference compared with those of the control(P>0.05).Conclusions1 150μW/cm2 Low-power microwave radiation is one kind of testiculus poison .It may act on testiculus directly and make androgone degeneration ,so that spermatogenesis was depressed , sexual function was weakened, and cell of Leydig Degenerated .It also affect the reproductive system of male mice by restraining the synthesis of testicular hormone from cell of Leydig.2 150μW/cm2 low-power microwave radiation can influence the level of blood serum andrusol, and further impact other correlate indexes of the genital system of male mice through affecting the serum cholesterol total and didymus organizes P450css mRNA.3 Powerwindow effect exists in the effect of low power microwave radiation on serum andrusol, the spermatozoon comparative counting, and the teratospermia rate under certain conditions nearby 150μW/cm2.4 Whether the change in P450css mRNA expression and the level of serum andrusol results from the change of the content of the cAMP of the genital system of male mice caused by low-power microwave radiation awaits further studies..5 250μW/cm2 low-power microwave radiation can affect the expression of P450scc mRNA of didymus of the genital system of male mice and serum total cholesterol, but has no effect on the level of serum andrusol, teratospermia rate , and spermatozoa comparative counting. It may be due to microwave powerwindow effect according to the theory of parameter harmonic vibration, and awaits further research.
