[Objective]EMMPRIN is a regular of MMPs , it has been poorly represented in literature about the expression pattern and regulation of EMMPRIN in end- ometriosis. The purpose of the study is to explain the problem and function of EMMPRIN,MMP-2,TIMP-2 in endometriosis.[Methods] Immunohistochemical method was employed to detect the expression of EMMPRIN,MMP-2,TIMP-2 in the ectopic endometrium of the 36 patients with endometriosis, the eutopic endometrium of the 36 patients with endometriosis and the normal controls (20 cases).[Results] 1. The masculine expression levels of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 were low in the normal endometrium , high in the ectopic endometrium .The masculine expression level of TIMP-2 was high in the normal endometrium, low in the ectopic endometrium. 2. The masculine expression levels of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 in endometriosis were higher than those in the normal endometrium and the eutopic endometrium(P<0.05), the masculine expression levels of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 in the eutopic endometrium were higher than those in the normal endometrium as well (P >0.05).The masculine expression level of TIMP-2 in endometriosis was lower than that in the normal endometrium and the eutopic endometrium(P<0.05), the masculine expression level of TIMP-2 in the eutopic endometrium was lower than that in the normal endometrium (P >0.05). 3. The masculine expression levels of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 in the proliferative phase endometrium were higher than those in the secreatory phase endometrium (P>0.05) . The masculine expression level of TIMP-2 in the proliferative phase endometrium was lower than that in the secreatory phase endometrium. (P>0.05) in all samples. 4.Both in the ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium,the masculine expression levels of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 were up-regulative expression with the increase of r-AFS stage of endometriosis(P<0.05),but the masculine expression level of TIMP-2 was down-regulated expression with the increase of r-AFS stage of endometriosis (P<0.05). 5. The masculine expression level of MMP-2 was related to that of TIMP-2(P=0.045 ) negatively, the masculine expression level of EMMPRIN was not related to that of MMP-2 in the normal endometrium significantly. The masculine expression level of EMMPRIN was related to those of MMP-2 positively(P=0.009 ),the masculine expression level of MMP-2 was not related to that of TIMP-2 in the ectopic endometrium significantly.【Conclusions】1.EMMPRIN,MMP-2 and TIMP-2 together may be involved in the process of invasion and tissue remodeling ,which is supposed to be part of pathogenesis of endometriosis. 2.In the normal endometrium, the masculine expression level of EMMPRIN was not related to that of MMP-2 significantly. There were remarkably negative correlation and good concordance between MMP-2 and TIMP-2, which can help to maintain the normal state of endometrium. 3.In the ectopic endometrium, there were remarkably positive correlation and good concordance between EMMPRIN and MMP-2, which can help to induce a more high expression level of MMP-2. There were the negative correlation but not concordance between MMP-2 and TIMP-2. Meanwhile, the high expression of MMP-2 and the low expression of TIMP-2 in the ectopic endometrium can lead to the high ratio of MMP-2/ TIMP-2.The results suggest that ectopic endometrium with endometriosis may be more invasive and prone to peritoneal implantation . 4.Artificially induction the expression of TIMP-2 or interruption the expression of EMMPRIN,MMP-2 probably inhibits the pathogenesis of endometriosis.This study may provide a new auxiliary way for therapy of endometriosis.
