Background and purpose:The patients with thalamic stroke will have the disturbance of intelligence, but there isn't a objective norm in reflecting the change of intelligence yet. This study was designed to investigate the injury degree of the intelligence after thalamic stroke, and compare the change of P300 between thalamic stroke and cortical stroke. Methods:Select thirty patients with cortical strokes(A group),thirty patients with thalamic strokes(B group),thirty controls(C group). These patients all were diagnosed by CT or MRI,and then examined by MMSE(mini-mental state examination),WAIS(Wechsler adult intelligence scale)and P300 in one month after disease. Results:There are significant difference in MMSE scores,WAISscores and P300's lantency and wave amplitude among three groups. There are significant difference between A and B groups in MMSE scores(t=17.21,P<0.0005),the results show that patients in B group have more serious intellectual disturbance. This result also exist in WAIS scores(t=12.35,P<0.0005).Correlation analysis show that MMSE score and WAIS score have negative correlation to P300 latency. Conclusion:Patients with thalamic stroke have more serious intellectual disturbance than cortial stroke.P300 may be a objective norm that reflect the change of intelligence.
