| Objective To explore the effects of pre-operative accelerated radiotherapy in treatment of lower rectal cance. Methods Sixty cases of lower rectal cancer were divided randomly into two groups:Thirty patients in group A were treated with pre-operative accelerated radiotherapy and other 30 patients in group B were received pre-opreative general radiotherapy.60 patients of low rectal carcinoma were treated with 6Mv-X radiation for whole-pelvic radiotherapy. The totle dose of radiotherapy was 30Gy with 3Gy fractions every time, two times every day in group A.The radiotherapy lasted 5 days and was followed by 1-2 weeks rest.Patients in group B were treated with 40Gy with 2Gy fractions every time, one time every day, then received operation after 4 monoth.Result There was no significant difference(P>0.05)in the pathological response rate after surgery and anal preservation rates and the postoperative complication. Conclusions This study suggests that the preoperative accelerated radiotherapy didn't increase the dificulty of surgical procedure and the postoperative complications, and was favorable to improve the quality of the patient's life with clinically resectable rectal cancer, the preoperative accelerated radiotherapy is effective and safe. |
