Objective: To explore the affection of preoperative radiochemotherapy on celluar immune function and anal preservation in patients with low rectal cancer. Methods: 66 cases of low rectal cancer were non-randomized concurrently divided into 3 groups, Group A including 28 cases were treated by preoperative radiochemotherapy, Group B including 12 cases were treated only by preoperative chemotherapy, Group C including 26 cases had not any preoperative therapy . Before operation and after operation, all the patients received the same treatment of nutritional support . Both clinical feature and pathologic changes of every case before treatment and after treatment were recorded. The rate of anal preservation was recorded too. Before and after treatment and after operation, the percentages of T cell subset and NK cell activity were detected with FCM. Results: All the patients underwent curative resection successfully. After treatment, the clinical feature of each case in group A was obviously improved, in group B was partly improved, and in group C was no improvement. The pathologic changes after treatment of every case in group A were more significant as compared with that in group B. There was no pathologic change in group C. The rate of anal preservation in group A was 46.43%(13/28), in group B was 8.33%(1/12), and in group C was 3.85%(1/26). The rate of anal preservation in group A was more significantly as compared with that in group B, C(P<0.01). Before and after treatment and after operation, there was no significant difference of the percentages of T cell subset among the 3 groups(P>0.05); There was no significant difference of NK cell activity...
