Objective: To investigate the endothelial dysfunction and the asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) level in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.Method: Thirty-five patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and thirty-two healthy controls were enrolled in this study. The plasma von willebrand factor (vWF) was determined by ELISA. The plasma ADMA was detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and flow-mediated dilation (FMD) was measured by B-mode ultrasound at rest.Result: The plasma vWF in the patients of DCM was significantly higher than the healthy controls(p=0.000); The FMD in patients with DCM was significantly lower than that in the healthy controls(p=0.000); However, the vWF and FMD in the patients with different cardiac function were not significantly different (p=0.408, p=0.433); and the significant difference of plasma ADMA in the DCM and the controls was not found (p=0.225).Conclusion: 1.Our findings indicate that endothelial dysfunction is existed in DCM patients, it is not paralleled with the grade class of cardiac function in patients with DCM; 2.The level of ADMA is not related to the endothelial dysfunction inDCM.
