Objective To analyze related factors affecting the outcome of auto-tissue substitution urethroplasty.Materials and methods : Between February 2000 and May 2006, 116 patients underwent auto-tissue substitution urethroplasty at our hospital; 82 had a single-stage onlay buccal mucosa urethroplasty and 34 had a single-stage pedicle penile skin flaps urethroplasty. Variables assumed to influence the success rate of urethroplasty, including stricture localization and length, kind and width of substitution, previous treatment, duration of catheterization were assessed on univariate analysis. Results : The patients were followed-up for 5 to 60 months postoperatively (mean,23.9 months).Of the 116 patients,95 (81.9%) voided wel1.Urethral stricture recurred or accompanied with complications in 21 cases. Restricted patients were successfully treated with subsequent procedures, including dilation in 2 and another urethroplasty in 12. Overall success rate in this group was 94.0%.Conclusions : Substitution kind was not the risk factors of short-time recurrence rate. Between 0.8 cm and 2.0 cm of width of buccal mucosa strip, the strip was wider, the recurrence rate was lower.
