Objective: To determine levels of plasma hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in coronary heartdisease patients and to investigate the roles of H2S in the pathogenesis of coronary heartdisease. Methods: 45 coronary heart disease patients were randomly enrolled as study group andassigned into 3 subgroups according to stable angina pectoris (15) and unstable angina(15) and myocardial infarction (15). Control group conclude 15 health persons. And other3 subgroups according to the degree of pathological changes of coronary artery, asone-branch changes (12) and two-branch changes (19) and three-branch or left-mainbranch changes (14). Concentrations of plasma hydrogen sulfide (H2S) were determinedby spectrometer. Data were processed by statistical methods which conclude student Ttest, F test. Results: (1) The levels of H2S in coronary heart disease (37.08±10.36μmol/L) weresignificantly reduced than that of normal controls (50.98±6.23μmol/L), (P<0.01); (2) Theconcentrations of plasma H2S in 3 subgroups were 47.73±3.87μmol/L, 37.38±4.60μmol/L,26.87±7.56μmol/L respectively. There were significant differences between any two ofthe groups (P<0.01). (3) The concentrations of plasma H2S in the other 3 subgroups were45.65±4.12μmol/L,38.26±3.96μmol/L,28.93±6.41μmol/L respectively. Therewere significant differences between any two of the groups (P<0.01).Conclusion: The concentrations of plasma hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are lower in coronaryheart disease patients, and there is negative correlation between H2S level and coronaryheart disease levels. The study indicate that the short of plasma hydrogen sulfide take partin the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease.
