Objective: To investigate the expression of survivin and its relationship with expression of MMP-2 and P53. Methods: Immunohistochemical method(SP method) was used to detect the expression of Survivin, MMP-2 and P53 in 38 osteosarcoma tissues and 10 osteochondroma tissues. Results: The expression rate. of survivin was significantly higher in osteosarcoma (63.15%) than in osteochondroma (0.0%) (P<0.01). The expression of MMP-2 was detected in a greater proportion of osteochondroma (78.9%) than in osteosarcoma (10.0%) (P<0.01). The positive expression rate of P53 was higher in osteosarcoma (52.6%) than in osteochondroma (10.0%). There was a significantly positive correlation between survivin and MMP-2,P53. Conclusion: Survivin was over expressed in osteosarcoma and may play a promoting role. High expression of MMP-2 is closely correlated with invasion and metatasis of osteosarcoma. Survivin and p53 might play synergetic roles in the process of osteosarcoma.
