ObjectiveTo investigate the neurological status recovery in patients with spinal cord injury(SCI) employing ASIA2000 standards.Method42 patients with acute spinal cord injury who were admitted in the department of orthopaedics of The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from May 2004 to May 2006 were reviewed and their neurological deficits(motor and sensory) were evaluated retrospectively.ResultAfter comprehensive rehabilitation treatment, 1 of 20 cases with complete SCI reversed into incomplete SCI, and other 19 cases demonstrated statistically significant segmental neurological improvement at follow-up. 19 patients with incomplete SCI demonstrated better neurological improvement than complete SCI group at follow-up(p<0.05) .ConclusionPatients with complete SCI could demonstrate significant segmental neurological improvement and some of them may reverse into incomplete SCI. Patients with incomplete SCI could demonstrate significant neurological improvement.ASIA2000 standards is a significant scale in the neurological evaluation of SCI.
