Objective: Gastric carcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors. The rate of incidence is 50% in digestive tract tumor. Its mortality ranks first in malignant tumors in our country .There are about 16,000 persons who died from gastric carcinoma every year in our country. This experiment is to study the clinicopathological significance of the expression of Livin, Survivin, Fas and FasL protein in gastric carcinoma. To investigate the correlation of the expression of Livin, Survivin, Fas and FasLprotein with clinical pathological characteristics in gastric carcinoma. To investigate the correlation between Livin, Survivin, Fas and FasL. Then it shows the relationships of Livin, Survivin, Fas, FasL with carcinogenesis, progression and prognosis of gastric carcinoma. The result may provide new theoretical basis for the treatment of gastric carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical technique SP was used to examine the expression of Livin, Survivin, Fas and FasL in 38 cases of gasrric carcinomas and their surrounding tissues (3cm distanced) and (10cm distanced) normal tissues. The levels the expression were analyzed combined with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, infiltration depth, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages.Results1 Expression of Livin in various lesions of gastric tissue Buffy color staining found in cytoplasms and/or nucleus was recognized as positive. Livin located in cytoplasms or nucleus. The rate of positive expression of Livin was 78.9%(30/38) in cancer tissues. The rate of positive expression was 47.6%(18/38) in the surrounding tissues of 3cm distance. The rate of positive expression was 15.8%(6/38) in the normal tissues of 10cm distance. The rate of positive expression of Livin in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in the surrounding tissues and normal tissues (P<0.05).The expression of Livin was not correlated with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, infiltration depth, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages (P>0.05).2 Expression of Survivin in various lesions of gastric tissueBuffy color staining found in cytoplasms and/or nucleus was recognized as positive. Survivin located in cytoplasms. The rate of positive expression of Survivin was 52.6%(20/38) in cancer tissues. The rate of positive expression was 23.7%(9/38) in the surrounding tissues of 3cm distance. The rate of positive expression was 10.5%(4/38) in the normal tissues of 10cm distance. The positive expression of Survivin in cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in the surrounding tissues and normal tissues (P<0.05).The expression of Survivin was significantly correlated with infiltration depth (P<0.05). The expression of Survivin was not correlated with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages (P>0.05).3 Expression of Fas in various lesions of gastric tissueBuffy color staining found in cytoplasm and/or cell membrane was recognized as positive. Fas located in cytoplasm and cell membrane. The rate of positive expression of Fas was 52.6%(20/38) in cancer tissues. The rate of positive expression was 57.9%(22/38) in the surrounding tissues of 3cm distance. The rate of positive expression was 78.9%(30/38) in the normal tissues of 10cm distance. The positive expression of Fas in normal tissues was significantly higher than in the surrounding tissues and cancer tissues (P<0.05).The expression of Fas was significantly correlated with differentiation degree and infiltration depth(P<0.05). The expression of Fas was not correlated with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages (P>0.05).4 Expression of FasL in various lesions of gastric tissueBuffy color staining found in cytoplasms and/or cell membrane was recognized as positive. FasL located in cytoplasms and cell membrane. The rate of positive expression of FasL was 78.9%(30/38) in cancer tissues. The rate of positive expression was 63.2%(24/38) in the surrounding tissues of 3cm distance. The rate of positive expression was 42.1%(16/38) in the normal tissues of 10cm distance. The positive expression of FasL in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the normal tissues (P<0.05).The expression of FasL was significantly correlated with differentiation degree (P<0.05). The expression of FasL was not correlated with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, infiltration depth, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages (P>0.05).5 The relationship between Livin and SurvivinThere was no correlation between the expression of Livin and Survivin in the gastric carcinoma tissues (P>0.05).6 The relationship between Fas, FasL and LivinThere was no correlation between the expression of Fas, FasL and the expression of Livin in the gastric carcinoma tissues (P>0.05).7 The relationship between Fas, FasL and SurvivinThere was a close correlation between the expression of Fas,FasL and the expression of Survivin in the gastric carcinoma tissues (P<0.05).Conclusion 1 The positive expression of Livin in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the surrounding tissues and normal tissues. The expression of Livin was not correlated with clinicopathological features of the patients including age, gender, tumor size, loci of the tumor, infiltration depth, differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and UICC-stages . It indicated that Livin could be correlated with carcinogenesis.2 The positive expression of Survivin in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the surrounding tissues and normal tissues, which indicated that Survivin could be correlated with carcinogenesis. The expression of Survivin with serosa infiltration was significantly higher than that without serosa infiltration, which indicated that Survivin could be correlated with infiltration depth.3 The positive expression of Fas in the surrounding tissues and cancer tissues was significantly lower than in normal tissues, which indicated that Fas is low expression in gastric carcinoma. The expression of Fas in well and moderately differentiated tissues was significantly higher than that in low and non differentiated tissues, which indicated that Fas could be correlated with differentiation degree. The positive expression of Fas with serosa infiltration was significantly higher than that without serosa infiltration, which indicated that Fas could be correlated with infiltration depth.4 The positive expression of FasL in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the normal tissues, which indicated that FasL could be correlated with carcinogenesis. The expression of FasL in well and moderately differentiated tissues was significantly higher than that in low and non differentiated tissues, which indicated that FasL could be correlated with differentiation degree.5 There was no correlation between the expression of Survivin and Livin in the gastric carcinoma tissues. It indicated that there could be a different mechanism in the cells apoptosis.6 There was no correlation between the expression of Fas and FasL and the expression Livin in the gastric carcinoma tissues. It indicated that there could be a different mechanism in the cells apoptosis.7 There was a close correlation between the expression of Fas,FasL and the expression Survivin in the gastric carcinoma tissues. It indicated that there could be the same pathway in the cells apoptosis.
