Observation On Bone Metabolism In Patients With Ankylosing Spondylitis

Objective:To investigate the bone formation markers[bone gla protein,(BGP)and bone resorption markers[tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase,(TRAP)]and[osteoprotegerin,(OPG)] in 30 patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS)and in a control group of 30 subjects.The characteristics of bone metabolism in patients with AS were discussed.In addition,its relationship with gender,HLA—B27,disease activity,the onset age,ESR,CRP,and disease duration were studied in AS group.Metheds:30 patients with AS as defined by the New York criteria were investigated as study group.Ⅰ.The control group consisted of 30 healthy volunteers.The disease activity was measured by the BASDA.Blood samples were collected using a standard venepuncture technique between 8:30 and 11:30 am.Serum was separated and stored at -70℃until analysis.Serum BGP assays were performed using a competitive EIA method,Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)were performed using colorimetdc method,Osteoprotegerin(OPG)were measured with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA),The erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)was determined according to the Westergren method.C-reactive protein(CRP)levels were measured with a Behring nephelometer and Behring reagents(Liederbach,Germany).OPG,TRAP and BGP were analyzed by digital image analysis in different patient groups and normal subjects.Its relationship with gender,disease duration,the onset age,ESR,CRP,and disease activity were studied in AS group.Results:.TRAP and OPG values of the patient group were significantly different compared with the control group(p＜0.05),It was seen that the level of TRAP were affected by gender,disease activity,duration of disease,CRP and ESR values of the patients In which,the most influential factors is disease activity.Conclusion:It can be concluded that bone turnover in patients with AS reflects normal osteoblastic activity and high osteoclastic activity.It was seen that osteoclastic activity were affected by gender,disease activity,duration of disease,CRP and ESR values of the patients.
