Objectives: To investigate the correlation between estrogenreceptor(ERa, ERβ) and estradiol in patents with hypospadias. Methods: Expressions of ERa and ERβwere analyzed in the tissuesof prepuce in 35 children with hypospadias as well as 32 normal childrenby immunohistochemistry (S-P). The concentrations of estradiol (E2)were measured in the subject by chemiluminescent immunoassay.Results:1. The positive rate of ERa in the hypospadias group (51.4%) wasnot significantly higher than in normal group (50%) (P>0.05).2. The positive rate of ERβin the hypospadias group (77.14%) wassignificantly higher than in normal group (53.125%) (P<0.05).3. The positive rate of ERa in the anterior type was 53.33%, themiddle type was 50% and the posterior type was 50%. They had nosignificant difference by comparing each of them (P>0.05).4. The positive rate of ERβin the anterior type was 80%, the middletype was 75% and the posterior type was 75%. They had no significantdifference by comparing each of them (P>0.05).5. The concentrations of estradiol (E2) in hypospadias group(9.6177±0.42898pg/ml) were not significant higher than in normal group(9.4400±0.27264pg/ml) (P>0.05).Conclusions: Expressions of ERβin the tissues of prepuce inchildren with hypospadias were significant higher than those in normalchildren, which would be helpful in investigating the etiology ofhypospadias. We haven't found that expressions of ERa in the tissues ofprepuce in children with hypospadias were significant higher than thosein normal children. We haven't found that expressions of ERa or ERβinthe different types of hypospadias (the anterior type, the middle type, theposterior type) had significant difference. We haven't found that theconcentrations of estradiol (E2) between children with hypospadias and normal children had significant difference.
