Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common chronic complication of diabetes, also is one of blinding diseases. Its incidence increases with the duration of diabetes course, has become the developed country blinding disease. With improved quality of life, the incidence of diabetic retinopathy in China has also increased. The nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) effective treatment,is the key of prevention proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR), regarding reduces blinding rate especially is important.This research acts according to the dialectical thinking of Chinese medicine, comprehensively and systematically to observe the effect of local combine with systemic treatment on patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy.According to theories of traditional medicine and its systemic performance diagnosed syndrome of this group. Traditional medicine was added in the treatm ent group. After taken the traditional medicine , selected local and distal acupuncture point, given points injection drug treatment, most of the clinical symptoms improved significantly or disappeared. Comparison with the before and after treatment, the change of vision, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and ocular fundus were observed.The results showed that the combination therapy may improve the retinal microcirculation. thus changing the retinal microaneurysm, bleeding and exudative lesions,and reducing the possibility of development from NPDR to PDR. Contrast taking traditional medicine with it, the total effective rate was noticeably improved, effectively delay or even prevent the development of DR. The results showed that combined treatment is effective treatment of DR.
