Objective To observe the changes of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-kB)activation in pancreas of the rats with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) and theinfluence of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae injection upon NF-kB in those pancreas, inorder to investigate the mechanism of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae injection in thetreatment of pancreatitis. Methods SAP rat model was induced by injecting L-arginine into peritonealcavity and subcutaneous part. The rats was randomly divided into three groups. InSAP treated group Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae injection was injected intravenously. In SAP group the same volume NS instead of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae injectionwas injected intravenously. In the control group NS was injected into peritonealcavity instead of L-arginine, and the same volume NS as the two groups above wasinjected intraveously. The amylase in the plasm and ascites and the NF-kB activity inthe pancreas by immunohistochemistry were determined. Results The amylase in plasm and ascites in SAP group and SAP treatedgroup was obviously increased with NF-kB in pancreas inhanced. But in SAP treatedgroup with survival rate increased, the amylase and NF-kB were significantlydeclined compared with those in SAP Group. Conclusion One of the effects of Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae uponpancreatitis may be caused by suppressing NF-kB activity.
