| Objective: With epidemiologic method, to find out the existing fact and influencing factors of IUD's use and failure for women in Jiangsu province, and put forward effective measures for improving IUD's effect of contraception. Method: Adopting the design of the cross-sectional study in the research. Result: 2179 women were investigated in the study, about 87.10% women placing IUDs in the township organization and 9.82% in the county, 49.75% women placing them in the hospitals and 47.18% in the family planning service centers. Though analyzing IUD's failure rates between different levels and categories of service organizations, the obvious statistic differences can't be found. 181 women's IUDs were falling, and the cumulative IUD's failure rate of 6 months was 5%. The available main types of IUD were the womb-shaped IUD and active 165 IUD, accounting for 33.96%, 26.16% respectively. The failure rate of 6 months of MLCU375, MCuIUD, uterus-shaped copper IUD were 10%, 4%, 2% respectively. The women numbers of filling out failure records were 162, the failure rates of removing IUD for descent and totally removing were 33.33%, 28.40% respectively , the pregnancy rates with IUD and accident accounted for 13.01%,2.74%. Through one-way and Cox regress analyzing, the influencing factors were found including menses status, mental impressibility toward IUD, type of IUD and number of IUD's types, the statistic differences were found. The OR of mental status and mental impressibility toward IUD were 0.524, 2.749 respectively. Conclusion: Since the IUDs were mainly placed in the hospitals and family planning centers at the level of township, we should devote more to the grass roots and improve management skills among different service systems. Increasing the types of IUD should been treated carefully, which was linked with the know selection. The quality of technique such as check up before placing the IUD is the important aspect that lowers the IUD failure.
