[Object]The relationship between maxillofacial tumors and saliva is very close. In order to have a better knowledge of the quantity of CEA in saliva and serum of the patients suffering salivary glands tumors (SGT) and evaluate the relationship between the CEA quantity and the maxillofacial SGT, the detection of tumor markers in saliva would be of clinical value.[Materials and Methods]This thesis has collected the clinical materials of 76 cases of SGT patents who have been taken into hospital and diagnosed by pathology from January, 2002 to December, 2006. humuno-chemical Assay has been used to detect the saliva CEA of 46 salivary glands malignant tumors patients and 30 salivary glands benign tumors patients. The result is compared with 30 healthy people, In the meanwhile, the group of the malignant tumors and the group of the benign tumors has been made a Contrastive detection by their own serum CEA.[Results]Saliva CEA: There is a prominent difference (p< 0.001)among the saliva CEA in the malignant tumors patients, benign tumors patients and the healthy people. The quantity of saliva CEA of the group of the malignant tumors is obviously higher than the group of the benign tumors which is higher than the normal group.Serum CEA: The quantity of serum CEA among the three groups has no prominent difference (P>0.05). m the group of malignant tumors, the serum CEA of 5 patients in 46 cases has a slight increase to 6.10ng/ml~ 13.11ng/ml, and the average value is 9.11ng/ml (the normal value is 5ng/ml). The serum CEA in the other two groups is normal.[Conclusion]1. There is a prominent difference (P<0.001) among the saliva CEA in the malignant tumors patients, benign tumors patients and the healthy people. The quantity of saliva CEA of the group of the malignant tumors is obviously higher than the other two groups.2. The detection of the quantity of the saliva CEA in salivary glands malignant tumors is sensitive than that in serum. The detection of the tumor markers in saliva has some referential value on the early diagnosis of the SGT patients.3. Saliva is a kind of complicated mixture containing various kinds of proteins. The different kinds of proteins in blood also exist in saliva. Thus, the relationship between saliva and maxillofacial tumors is very close. As clear and colorless fluid, saliva could be used as a detective media with many advantages: the collection method is safe and non-traumatic; thesaliva samples could be taken repeatedly; the collection technique is convenient to be used to a general survey and a further selection.
