[Objective] to evaluate the efficacy and application of percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP) and kyphoplasty(PKP) in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. [Methods] twelve cases with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture underwent PVP/PKP. The injection dose of PMMA ranged from 2. 8-6ml. The visual analogue scale (VAS) and Barthel Index(BI)were evaluated pre-operation,72 hours and 3 months post-operation respectively. [Result] the mean values of VAS were 7. 08 ± 1.97 before Operation, and 2.08 ± 1.51 after operation. There was statistically significant difference(P<0. 01)between two groups. The mean values of BI were 40.42±16.85 before Operation, and 85.83±13.29 after operation, There was statistically significant difference(P<0. 01)between two groups. [Conclusions]PVP and PKP are effective, safe and mini-invasive technique in treating patients with osteoporotic vertebral compressionfracture, it can relieve the clinical symptoms and signs rapidly.
