Objective: Ectopic pregnancy is frequent surgical abdomen of obstetrics and gynecology, which is the leading cause of maternal death in the first trimester of pregnancy. About 95% of ectopic pregnancies occurs in the oviduct. In recent years, the incidence rate of it is rised. The molecular mechanisms underlying ectopic implantation in such cases have not been well characterized. Generally accepted, ectopic pregnancy often results from salpingitis and tubal damage. 55% of the cases of ectopic pregnancy occurs in fallopian tubes without macroscopically evident disease.Recent investigation indicates that homeobox genes (HOX genes) and 1eukemia inhibitory factor ( LIF) are essential for embryogenesis and development of the endometrium. They are necessary for endometrial receptivity to blastocyst implantation. But there are no reports about the expressions of them in ectopic implantation of fallopian pregnancy. We detected the protein expression of HOXA9 HOXA11 and LIF in the pregnant and normal fallopian tube to study their effect on fallopian pregnancy. Methods: Immunohistochemistry technique was used to evaluate the protein expression of HOXA9, HOXA11and LIF in pregnant and normal fallopian tube.Results:1.HOXA9 and HOXA11 mainly expressed in fallopian epithelium and a small quantity in interstitial substance and ovarian duct smooth muscle. The positive expressions of HOXA9 HOXA11 at the site of ectopic implantation of pregnant fallopian were higher than the normal fallopiantube in proliferative and secretory phase(P<0.05).2. LIF mainly expressed at fallopian epithelium, but expression in interstitial substance and ovarian duct smooth muscle was not clear. The expression in proliferative fallopian was weaker than that of secretory phase, but the most notable expression was in pregnant fallopian(p<0.05).Conclusions:1. The positive expressions of HOXA9 and HOXA11 at the site of ectopic implantation of pregnant fallopian were higher than that in the normal fallopian tube (secretory phase). In physiological condition, the decreased of expression of HOXA9 and HOXA11 in secretory fallopian were probably related with prevention from ectopic implantation in fallopian.2. The positive expressions of LIF in pregnant fallopian was obviously higher than that in the normal fallopian tube (secretory phase), and inferred that the increase of LIF are closely correlated to ectopic implantation of fallopian.
