Objective The aims of this clinical study were 1)to study clinical gastrointestinal symptoms and situation of anxiety and depression on patients with refractory diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(D-IBS), 2)to investigate the effect and safety of combination of psychological intervention with low-dose doxepin and psychological intervention in the treatment of patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome, 3)to estimate their curative effects and clinical significances.Methods 54 patients with refractory D-IBS were recruited into the randomized and open-label trial. According to patients' selection, 28 patients with D-IBS (Rome II criteria) were enrolled in a self-control study on combination of psychological intervention with low-dose doxepin therapy for 4 weeks, and 26 patients with D-IBS in a self-control study on the psychological intervention therapy for 4 weeks. All patients were diagnosed and treated in the Second Hospital of Liaocheng, between September 2005 and May 2006. By means of changes of main outcome variables including severity index of symptom, frequency index of symptom, and standard points of self-rating anxiety scale and self-rating depression scale , for D-IBS during treatment , the features in response to combination of psychological intervention with low-dose doxepin and psychological intervention...
