Objective : To study the changes and clinical significance of serum soluble Fas(sFas)and FasL(sFasL) levels in patients with breast cancer.Methods:Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was available to detect the levels of serum sFas and sFasL in 85 patients with breast cancer,24 patients with benign breast tumors and 30 normal healthy donors, analysis the correlation both of them and the clinical pathological parameters of breast cancer, the changes both of them by clinical treatments. Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of sFas,sFasL in 85 cases of breast cancer tissues and 30 cases of the normal breast tissues. Results : Serum sFas and sFasL levels in breast cancer group were significantly higher than those of the control groups, patients of stageⅢandⅣwere significantly higher than those of patients of stageⅠandⅡ,the valuesof posttreatments were remarkably reduced compare with pretreatments (P<0.05),no significant correlations were found both of them and the other clinical pathological parameters of breast cancer, serum sFas and sFasL levels of the two control groups showed no significant difference(P>0.05).In normal breast tissues, carcinorma in situ and invasive cancer ,the positive rates of sFas and sFasL were 40.0%,52.9%,69.2%;0.0%,100.0%,100.0%。Conclusion:sFas and sFasL may participate in the mechanism through which breast cancer cells escape from the immune attack. The elevation of female sFas concentration level may serve as one of the differentiative diagnostic factors for the diagnosis of breast cancer and also to indicate the status of its clinical satage. The post operative sFas concentration level may probably serve as one of the prognostic factors for evluating the result of treatment.Serum sFas and sFasL may serve as novel tumormarkers for breast cancer.
