Diabetes Mellitus is a worldwide chronic disease, which harms the health of all the diabetics in the world and meanwhile brings heavy economic burden to them. China is one of the developing counties with relative lower incidence. But the number of diabetics is large. The economic burden should be pay attention to.The incidence of diabetes in china is different in different areas: incidence in urban area is higher than rural area. Now, most researches about diabetes focus on urban areas. Research about economic burden of urban diabetics is still rare. As the proceeding of urbanization, incidence of diabetes in rural area increases continually. Compare to urban sufferers, rural diabetics are apt to be affected by the heavy economic burden. So pay more attention to rural diabetics and release their economic burden is necessary.Our research mainly focuses on the economic burden brought by diabetes in rural china. We surveyed the economic burden of diabetics, probed in the income losses and also analyzed the related influencing factors. We also give related policy suggestions according to the study results.According to this research, the average economic burden of rural diabetic in latest year is 7385 RMB(median is 5716), including direct economic burden 4686 RMB(median is 3376), and indirect burden 2698 RMB(median is 2080).The main factor influenced the economic burden is as follows: complications,disability and service seeking in different medical agents are the main influencing factors; whether receive care from the family influenced the direct treating expenses and indirect economic burden; diet control influence the hospitaiization expenses; also, gender is one of the factors, economic burden of male sufferers is higher than female sufferers'.Meanwhile, other influence factors are also exist: lower income and short of social security makes the risk higher; wrong ideas about health misled the behavior of rural diabetics; low quality and not enough quantity of health service utilization do harm to the health of rural diabetes sufferers; medicine market in rural area is not regularized, so a lot of sufferers buy medicine without doctors' prescription.So we give some policy suggestions as follows:1. Put most work of diabetes prevention and treatment to community health institutions, in order to release the economic burden of rural diabetics.2. Propagandize scientific health knowledge, release the incidence of3. Build up scientific case treatment referring mechanism and utilize health resources rationally.4. Strengthen medicine market management in rural areas. Put the medicine market in order.5. Increase the income of rural dwellers and build up social security system in rural areas.
