Objective TO investigate the clinical features ofmyasthenia gravis in elderly people. Methods The clinical characteristics of 33 elderly patients admitted to our hospital with myasthenia gravis fromJul 2000 to Dec 2006 were retrospectively reviewed. Results Of 33 MG patients ,78.8% were identified with the disease during the age of 60-70, and males were more than females with the ratio of 1.75 :1.The first and mostcommonly symptom in 24 elderly people after MG onset were all ocular manifestation occurring in 72.7%. The systemic form(87.9%) were significantly more than ocular form(12.1%).There were none of MG patients with autoimmunity diseases ,however, it was found that more MG patients were associated with thymoma and the other senile diseases .The positive rate of antibody (AchRAb,CAEAb )in blood serum and repetitive electric nerve stimulation(RNS) was respectively 66.7%,61.9% and 56%.The old people with MG were always misdiagnosed as a cerebrovascular disease .However,it was found that much more MG patients were recovered after treatment. Conclusions The eldely MG patients had its more distinctive clinical features than other MG type . It is good for diagnosing and treating the MG patients in the elderly people by understanding these clinical features,avoiding misdiagnosed.
