Objective To investigate the differences in intelligence and memory between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.Methods The intelligence and memory scale were compared by using theWechsler adult intelligence scale and memory scale revised in China in23 AD patients and 27 PD patients.Results Intelligence, the scores were lower with AD patients in information, comprehension,Arithmetic, similarity, digit, vocabulary, picture array, and also for VIQ and FIQ as compared with PD patients, especially in information, comprehension and similarity. In memory, the scores were lower with AD patients in direction, accumlation, recognition, visual reproduction, association study, digit and also memory quotient as compared with PD patients, especially in direction, accumulation, visual reproduction and digit.Conclusions AD and PD patients both suffer serious impairment onintelligence and memory. AD patients show serious and extensiveimpairment.
