Lately, people find erythropoietin receptor (EPO—R) is present in some tumors. we investigated the expression of EPO—R in colorectal carcinoma and marked with CD34. Analysis of the realationship between the expression of EPO—R and MVD in human colorectal carcinoma. To explore: (1) whether the EPO—R is present in colorectal carcinoma; (2) to investigate their roles in angiogenesis ,invasion and metastasis, and their relationship .The expression of EPO-R in surgical samples of 48 cases carcinoma and nomal colorectal tissue were investigated by immunohistochmcal method using monocolonal antibody to EPO-R and CD34.The expression levels of EPO-R in colorectal carcinoma tissue was higher than normal colorectal tissue. The distinction between the sites is marked (p<0.05); and it was significantly associated with differentiation, Dukes stage and lymph nodes metastasis (p<0.05). The MVD by CD34 staining had statistical significance in different groups of invasive depth and Dukes' stages (P<0.05).The MVD in EPO-R positive patients was significantly hight than that in EPO-R-negative patients (p<0.05).EPO-R was expressed in colorectal carcinoma, the ratio of over-expressed is high. The expression of EPO-R has a closely relationship with angiogenesis in colorectal carcinoma. It act as an angiogenic growth factor which can affect the biological behavior of tumors. It maybe a new pathway in tumor angiogenesis. Blocking the pathway may help us in curing tumor..
