OBJECTIVE To investigate the usage of antibiotics in the therapy of surgical infection in general hospital of our province, and provide some useful suggestions for rational use for surgeon and reasonable administration of antibiotics for the regulator.METHODS 6 Tertiary General Hospitals and 9 second-tier General Hospitals were sampled with random sampling. In each hospital,surgery case files administered from January to July in 2005(according to their admission time) was surveyed. And we investigated 70 case files in each hospital, 10 cases each month. All the case files matching condition will be selected if there is not enough. The data collected was entered into computer by excel, and analyzed by spss11.5 Statistical methods include descriptive analysis and ANOVA and so on.RESULTS Among all the case files investigated, there are 488 cut of type I , 424 of type II and 131 of type III. The preventive medication rate is 41.65%. Among them, 20.35% apply one kind of antibiotics, and 19.48% apply two kinds, and 1.63% applies three kinds, and 0.19% applies four kinds. Of all types of incisions, there are 11.04% of patients who are given antibiotics 2 hours before operation, 6.81% 1 hour before operation. And the ratio of medication over 1 day before operation is 23.80%.
