With the improvement of people's life, more and more teeth are referred to treatment. Restoration of the teeth, root canal treatment and other therapies all require a thorough knowledge of the dental pulp cavity. The purpose of this study is to investigate the anatomical characteristics of the pulp chamber of permanent anterior teeth and mandibular first molars.Firstly, 136 permanent anterior teeth were collected, crown length, crown width and crown thickness were measured by vernier caliper. Labial-lingual and mesial-distal radiographs were obtained by parallel technique. The distance between the lingual surface of the crown and the corresponding wall of the pulp chamber, the largest labial-lingual length, the largest mesial-distal length and the pulp chamber height were measured using Image Pro Plus 5.0 software. Related ratios were then calculated. The results showed that indexes related to the pulp chamber had greater variance than those related to external morphology; among the indexes related to the pulp chamber, the distance between the lingual surface of the crown and the corresponding wall of the pulp chamber had the least variance; the largest labial-lingual length was greater than the largest mesial-distal length in maxillary central incisors, whereas the maxillary canines, mandibular central incisors and canines were in the contrary; the...
