Objective To investigate the expression of FHIT and EFG protein in vulvar carcinoma and explore their relationship with the development and prognosis in vulvar carcinoma. Methods Expression of the FHIT and EGF was detected by immunohistochemical analysis in 20 normal vulvas and 22 vulvar intraepithelial neoplasias(VINS) as well as 60 primary vulvar carcinomas. Results The FHIT protein is located in the cytoplasm or nuclear of normal vulvar squamous epithelium. In 60 vulvar carcinomas, Positive expression of the FHIT and EGF were 13 and 58 respectively. The positive rates of the expression of FHIT protein in the squamous epithelium of normal vulvas, VINI-II, VINIII and invasive vulvar carcinomas were 100% (20/20), 72.7% (8/11), 45.5% (5/11), 21.7% (13/60), respectively. The positive expression rates of EGF were 0%(0/20), 18.2%(2/11), 82.8%(9/11), 96.7%(58/60), respectively. With the vulvar lesion deteriorating, the positive expression of FHIT protein decreases clearly. Among the well differentiated, intermediately differentiated and poorly differentiated invasive vulvar carcinoma, the rates for positive expression of FHIT were 60%(9/15), 20%(3/15), 3.3%(1/30) respectively, the rates for positive expression of EGF were 36.2%, 42.7% ,...
