Background: Severe Acute Pancreatitis (SAP) is a sort of severe disease with the characteristics of the acute, rapid progress, many complications and high mortality. It was reported that the mortality of SAP reached 25% internationally. In pathogenesis and therapeutics mechanism, international counterparts made great achievements. However, the obstacles of gastrointestinal motility were excluded from main viewpoints. In clinical practice, SAP patients usually had gastrointestinal motility obstacles' phenomenon accompanied such as nausea, vomit, stomach retention, sluggish duodenum movement, and intestines paralysis etc. Chinese traditional medicine paid earlier attention to it than that abroad; several domestic hospitals made the use of theory on "Restoring Normal Bowel Movement" to treat SAP, the mortality was controlled around 10%. In author's department, "Chai Qin Cheng Qi Tang" in terms of theory on "Restoring Normal Bowel Movement" combined with the treatment of routine western medicine was taken to treat SAP.
