BACKGROUND:Cardiovascular diseases were one of the most dangerous diseases which damages peoples heath in these days. Although the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis largely depended on genetic factors and life styles, the cellular and molecular mechanisms were still not clear. In recent years, more and more attentions had been paid to that inflammatory immunological reactions initiated the development of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis was a chronic disease that caused various cardiovascular complications. Recent studies had revealed that cellular and humoral immunity played crucial roles in atherogenic lesion formation, including macrophages, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and dendritic cells(DCs). DCs, which were "professional" antigen-presenting cells and whose effect was nearly hundred times stronger than macrophages, constitute a unique family of cells able to induce primary immune responses. Over the past decade, immunologists had been increasingly preoccupied with DCs and DCs were now seen as a panacea for vaccine development, tumour immunotherapy and a host of other immunological applications. The DCs comprised several subsets that induced and regulated the immune responses against...
