Objective: This experiment was done to analyse the correlation between four different syndromes of peptic ulcer(PU) patients and cytochemistry of the exfoliated cells of tongue coating, to find out the objective index of PU, which will help clinical diagnosis for PU.Method: 70 cases of PU were divided into 4 groups with the criteria of diagnosis and TCM differentiation syndromes of peptic ulcer. We detected the changes of morphological index of exfoliated cells of tongue coating:maturation index (MI),maturation value(MV) and chemical index:lactate dehydrogenase(LDH),acid phosphatase(ACP),succinic dehydrogenase(SDH),sulfhydryl group(-SH).Results:1.The quantity of middle-level cells of tongue coating smear of four different syndromes of peptic ulcer(PU) patients were higher than healthy group, and MV decreased on the contrary. The change of MI,MV of syndrome of blockage of qi was lowest (P<0.05), but damp-heat syndrome and yin-deficiency syndrome were highest (P<0.01). 2. Amount of LDH in exfoliated cells of tongue coating of damp-heat syndrome and yin-deficiency syndrome were highter than in the normal people, but amounts of those were lower; Amouns of SDH,-SH of damp-heat syndrome were highter than in the normal people, but amounts of those were lowest ; amount of ACP had evident change compared with the normal people except for damp-heat syndrome. As compared with those in different TCM sydrome typing, Amouns of LDH, SDH, -SH of damp-heat syndrome were hightest; amount of SDH were highter than yin-deficiency syndrome and code syndrome of deficiency type, but amount of LDH,ACP were among of them. Amouns of ACP of yin-deficiency syndrome were hightest and its SDH were lowest. Amouns of LDH and ACP of code syndrome of deficiency type were lowest. Conclusion: Cytochemistry of the exfoliated cells of tongue coating of PU patients had certain specificity, which can be used as one objective index for the syndrome differentiation.
