Objective Our study aims to analyze the expression and the correlation of p34cdc2 and cyclin Bl in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and furtherly explore the relation between the two proteins with the clinicopathological features of tongue SCC.Methods 60 cases of tongue SCC with healthy tongue tissues and/or neighboring noncancerous tissues were selected randomly. The controlled epithelium includes 11 healthy tongue tissues and 49 neighboring noncancerous ones. These samples were detected by using immunohistochemiscal method, and the clinicopathological features of tongue SCC were analyzed. Results The expression of p34cdc2 and cyclin Bl were basically localized in cytoplasm of tongue SCC cells, showing brown/yellow. Similar coloration was seldom found in healthy ones. The expression of p34cdc2 and cyclin Bl in neighboring non-cancerous tissues were stronger than those in healthy ones. Furtherly, we found over-expression of the two proteins in tongue SCC. The difference was statistically significant between the expression of p34cdc2 and cyclin Bl in cancer tissues and healthy or/and neighboring non-cancerous tissues (P<0.01). There was a heterogeneous distributive tendency of p34cdc2 and cyclin B1 positive cell, namely more positive cells were located in peripheral region of cancer nests than in central position. Significant positive correlation was found between the expression of p34cdc2 and cyclin Bl in tongue SCC (P<0.01), the correlation coefficient being 0.929. The positive correlation was also found between the expression of the two proteins in neighboring noncancerous...
