Trichomonas vaginalis is one of sexually transmitted diseases. Metronidazole is the common treatment of choice for genitourinary infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis in clinical. But it has many serious side effects on gastrointestinal tract, and should not be used during pregnancy, particularly during the first 3 weeks of gestation. What's more, the course of treatment is as long as 7 to 10 days without interval, which results in poor compliance of patients. As a result, intravaginal controlled drug administration, delaying drug effect, deducting drug doses and reducing side effect, become the hot topic in anti-trichomonad drug development.Drug-loaded nanoparticles are developed with nanotechnology and modern medicine science. Because nanoparticles possess quantum size, grand quantum size, surface effect and cooperation effect, hey exhibit many characteristics which isn't existed in normal drugs, such as great specific surface area, high surface activity, strong absorbing ability, high catalytic efficiency, low toxicity, and not easily degradable. The development of biology and medicine will be speeded up with the progress of nanotechnology and the understanding of nanoparticles.
