Irrigation and sterilization is an important step in the treatment of canals. Although there are many different kinds of irrigating fluid available in clinic use, each of the fluid has some limitations: strong irritative reactions and lower antibiotic activities. Recent studies have shown that ozone water can be a promising candidate. The present studies focus on the sterilizing power and cytotoxicity of ozone water.Study 1: We developed a novel ozone generator capable to produce low-concentrated ozone water for dental applications, based on the principles of ozone generation.Study 2: Determination of ozone concentration. Objective: To determine the ozone concentration and to investigate its changes using iodine titration. Methods: Ozone concentration was measured 5 min after formation and every 5 min for 40 min and its changes were observed. Results: Ozone concentration increased in a time-dependent manner and reached the maximum 1.334 at 35 min after formation.Study 3: Compare of cytotoxicity between ozone water of different concentrations and other irrigating fluids. Objective: To determine the cytotoxicity of ozone water of different concentrations and find out the concentration applicable for clinical application. Methods: MTT was employed to determine the cytoxicity of ozone water on human periodontal membrane...
