Objective: To investigate the expression and distribution of STGC3 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and normal nasopharyngeal biopsy samples to provide some acceptable indications about the function of the candidate tumor suppressor STGC3.Methods: The rabbit anti-STGC3 antibody was prepared by immunizing rabbit with a synthetic peptide derived from the COOH-terminal end of STGCC protein. The expression and distribution of STGC3 protein were displayed by the immunohistochemical staining in 40 NPC and 21 normal nasopharyngeal samples; Western blot was used to analyze the expression level of STGC3 protein in 20 NPC and 20 normal nasopharyngeal specimens. Results: The expression and distribution of STGC3 protein were examined in NPC and normal nasopharyngeal tissues by using immunohistochemistry. The expression of STGC3 was located in cytoplasm and nuclear of epithial cell in normal nasopharyngeal biopsy, but chiefly in cytoplasm of tumor cell in NPC. The positive expression rate of STGC3 was 85.71% (18/21) in in normal nasopharyngeal samples, and 30% (12/40) in NPC, and difference was statistically significant between them (P<0.05). In NPC, the positive expression rate in I -II phase was higher than that in III-IV phase (43.75% and 20.83%, respectively), P<0.05. And the expression rate of STGC3 in NPC with lymph node metastasis was higher than that in NPC without...
