Objective: To evaluate surgical therapeutic effect of esophageal and cardiac carcinoma for advanced age. Methods: A total of 1892 patients,61 cases were≥70 year old,122 cases were <70 year old taken suction trabanttly, were analysed retrospectively. These patients were resected of esophageal and cardiac carcinoma from Jun 1988 to Jun 2002. The rate of two groups compared with chi-squared test. a=0.05. The rate of complication befor operation, resection, complication after operation, morbidity in perioperation were investigated. Furthermore we carried out following up for those patients (≥70 year old). Results: The rate of complication befor operation resection, complication after operation, morbidity in perioperation were 72.13%, 93.44%, 32.79%, 4.92% in patients (≥70 year old); 36.88%,95.08%, 18.03%, 4.10% in patients(< 70 year old). There were statistically significant between two groups with in the rate of complication befor operation, complication after operation; there were no statistically significant between two groups with in the rate of resection, case-fatality rate in perioperation. The survival rate of 1,3,5 were 62.5%, 36.87%, 22.53%. Conclusion: It was identical curative effect for advanced age patients and other patients for surgical therapy of esophageal and cardiac carcinoma. But we should strengthened preoperative prepare, managemented and correctly evaluated heart and lung function of these patients, choosed best therapeutic plan for each patient.. At the same time, we should strengthened postoperative care and treated complication promptly.
