Objective By comparing the effective orifice area (EOA) and in vivo hemodynamic parameters of 19mm St. Jude Regent valves and 21mm other double-leaflet mechanical valves which were replaced in aortic place during mitral valve and aortic valve replacement, to make it clear what is the EOA and the EOA index (EOAI) of 19 mm St. Jude Regent valve and whether prosthesis-patient mismatch (PPM) is going to happen in those patients who got the 19mm and 21mm valve replacement operation. Methods 23 patients who got valvular heart diseases were divided into 2 groups according to aortic annular diameter. 19mm St. Jude Regent valves were replaced in aortic valve place in No.1 group, and 21mm other double-leaflet mechanical valves were replaced in aortic place in No.2 group. All of the operations were accomplished under cardio-pulmonary bypass in West China Hospital. All of the patients were followed up in 3-6 months after their surgery processes. We used Color Doppler echocardiography to measure the hemodynamic parameters in their follow-up. Then left ventricular mass (LV mass) and effective orifice area etc were calculated and compared by using SPSS 12.0.Results No cardiac episodes were detected during the perioperative period and 3-6 months after operation. LV mass reduced in 3-6 months after operation in both groups. No statistical significance of EOA, EOA index and LV...
