Honokiol (HNK) is an active component purified from the bark of Magnolia officianlis,a plant used in traditional Chinese medcine.Honokiol consists of biphenyl skeleton with phenolic and allylic functionalities and it has a variety of pharmacological effects,but most attraction to us among them is antitumor function including cytotoxity,anti-angiogenisis,inducing cell differentiation and apoptosis,inhibiting activity of enzyme and synthesis of DNA and/or RNA.Radiotherapy is very important in the therapy of many human tumors,but is often unsuccessful because of tumor cells radiation resistance.
