Objective: To discuss the clinical value of sputum culture with fungi and identify its risk factors in neonates. Methods:One hundred and forty nine hospitalized neonates with positive sputum culture (SC) were divided into three groups according to fungi, bacteria and mixture of sputum culture results. Several clinical characteristics of neonates from three groups were compared retrospectively according to their clinical data and analyzed influence of fungal growth in sputum culture for prognosis. Results: (1) The fungal group occurred in 70 of the 149 patients (47.0%,70/149). (2) Candida, accounting for 100.00%, was the main strain that cultured from neonates` sputum. Candida albican(CA) was the most common strain, which made up 56.9% of sputum culture results with fungi . Resistant rate to fluconazole was 25.7%(9/35). (3) The risk factors of sputum culture of fungi included : mother accepted corticosteroid therapy antepartumly, preterm infant, the therapy with broad-spectrum antibiotics(Carbenin or Tienam),trilogy of antibiotics, over seven days of...
