Objective: To study the differentially expressed genes and proteins in the brains of patients with drug-refractory epilepsy, and discuss their effects in the pathogenesis.Materials and Methods: we picked out the specimens stored in our Department randomly from the brain bank of patients who had underwent epilepsy surgery due to drug-refractory epilepsy as experimental group in this study, including temporal lobe cortex (n=26) and hippocampus (n=10).There were 19 male, and 17 female, whose ages ranged from 8 to 44, with a mean of 21.88±9.62 (X±S) years. Duration of epilepsy was 2.5~30 years,with a mean of 10.24±6.83( X±S) years. 17 had simple partial seizure seconderly generalized tonic-clonic seizure, 9 had complex partial seizure, and 10 had diverse seizure types (tonic seizure, simple partial seizure). The control group specimens (n=8) were obtained from subjects who had been enforced to debridement because of craniocerebral trauma, or autopsy after accidental death. The subjects internalized in control group had no past history of epilepsy or other neurologic diseases, and the pathological sections of specimens had been confirmed that the brain tissue structures were normal. The control group specimens included temporal lobe cortex (n=5) and hippocampus (n=3).There were 4 male, and 4 female, whose ages ranged from 17 to 66, with a mean of 31.59±11.65 ( X±S)years.
