Objective: To evaluate clinical significance of serum endostatin(ES) changes in lung cancer patients before and after chemotherapy or operation. Methods: The serum levels of endostatin were detected in 60 cases of lung cancer patients before and after chemotherapy or operation, 20 benign pulmonary diseases and 20 healthy persons as controls by ELISA method. The changes of serum endostatin were observed in different pathological types ,clinical stages and tumor sizes of lung cancer. Meantime, the changes of serum endostatin in lung cancer patients before and after chemotherapy or operation were compared by analysis. Results: 1) Serum endostatin levels in patients with lung cancer group were significantly higher than those in patients with benign pulmonary diseases or healthy controls (P<0.001) ;but there was no significant difference in the endostatin levels between benign pulmonary diseases patients and healthy controls (P>0.05) . 2) Serum endostatin levels in patients with tumor diameter (≥5.0cm) were significantly higher than those with tumor diameter (<5.0cm) (P< 0.01) . Serum endostatin levels were not closely related to to the pathological type, clinical stage (P>0.05). 3) Serum endostatin levels in lung cancer patients on the 7th postoperative day were significantly lower than those before operation (P<0.001) . 4) Serum endostatin levels in effective chemotherapy group on the 3th post-chemotherapy day were significantly higher than those before chemotherapy and on the 21th post-chemotherapy day (P<0.001); but there was no significant difference between serum endostatin levels before chemotherapy and those on the 21th post-chemotherapy day (P>0.05) . there was not significant difference in ineffective chemotherapy group...
