Objective: To investigate the protective effect of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) on human renal tubular epithelial cells induced by high glucose and connective tissue growth factor ( CTGF ) .Methods: Recombinant human hepatocyte growth factor ( rhHGF ) was added into human renal tubular epithelial cells (HKC) incubated with glucose and CTGF at different concentrations, respectively. mRNA expression of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1 ) , CTGF, and fibrosis parameters such as type IV procollagen ( COL4A] ) , fibronectin (FN ) , α-smooth muscle actin ( α-SMA ) were measured by RT-PCR, and the protein expression of a-SMA was detected by western blotting.Results: TGF-β1 CTGF and fibrosis parameters were elevated to some extend, when HKC was incubated with high glucose and CTGF.
