Objective: The aim of the study was assessment of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI) before and after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) by Tei index ,which was obtained by pulsed wave Doppler tissue imaging(DTI) and a conventional Doppler method, and to make a comparison between the two methods. Therefore,we can help the clinical applicability and usefulness of Tei index. Methods: 27 patients with the first AMI underwent selective PCI. The ratio of mitral peak velocity (E/A),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and Tei index were measured before ,7 days,1 month and 3 months after PCI with two dimension and Doppler echocardiography .The Tei index by DTI were caculated respectively at four different sites in the mitral annulus from apical 2-chamber view and apical 4-chamber view: septum, lateral, anterior, and inferior. The mean Tei index ,expressed as DTI-Tei, was found by dividing the sum of these Tei-index values into four. The corrrlation analysis was used to assess the statistical relationships between the Tei index by DTI and the conventional method.Otherwise,30 age-matched healthy subjects served as controls. Results: Tei index by the conventional method and DTI was significantly higher in patients with AMI than healthy subjects(P<0.01).In these two groups, the correlation(control group r=0.70,P<0.001;AMI group r=0.43, P<0.05, respectively ) between the conventional method and DTI of measuring Tei index...
