Part one : Preoperative MR signal intensity prediction of pituitary adenomas consistencyObjective: The transsphenoidal approach is a less invasive and safer procedure for removing pituitary adenomas. However, this procedure becomes extremely difficult when the tumour consistency is fibrous. Preoperative evaluation of tumour consistency will be useful in guiding the operative approach. In this study, we will investigate predicting factors of tumour consistency by preoperative MR signal intensity.Methods: Twenty-nine patients with pituitary adenomas were investigated in this study. Based on the operative findings, the tumors were divided into two groups , Tumors in group one (n=22) were soft and were easily removed by suction and curettage . Tumors in group two (n=7) were firm , It was difficult to remove them by suction and curettage and required sharp dissection for partial removal.
