Objectives: to assess the effectiveness of lateral-wedged insole in patients with varus deformity osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods: First, the guideline of choosing and excluding case was established ,and the scoring criterion was set down. Then, according to the guideline,fifty-five cases (seventy-two knees) were divided into experimental and contral group. The variety of joint pain and activity was observed. At last, the difference between before and after treatment were also compared by the femoral-tibial angle. Results: After observing 4-6 months,in the experimental and contral group,9.96% and 6.46% excellent results were obtained, 82.93% and 35.48% fair results were obtained. In the experimental group, according to the standard of the X-ray image ,the painful and activity criterions between before and after treatment, II grade, were much decreased,p<0.05; III grade, were also decreased, but p>0.05; IVgrade, weren't decreased. In the control group, the crieterions, II IIIand IVgrade, weren't changed. The femoral-tibial angles were few decreased between before and after treatment, but p>0.05.Conclusions: (1)The threatments with the lateral-wedged insoles were valued for the unserious varus deformity osteoarthritis. (2) Because the symptoms and signs weren't completely recoveried, the lateral-wedged insole were combined with the other treatments. (3)The femoral-tibial angle didn't decrease between before and after treatment.
