Ventricular Septal Defect (VDS) is the most common type of congenital cardiovascular anomaly malformation in children . For left to right shunt, the general circulation of VDS patients is below the normal level, and the physical development is often affected. The increase of pulmonary circulation may result in additional load to the left ventricular end diastolic volume. Facing the over-weight load, normal cardiac muscle will take on adaptive construction, which may finally lead to subsequent decrease of the systolic and diastolic. High level shunt may lead to over-load volume, subsequently the expansion of left ventricle. In recent years, a lot of researches have been made on the relation between cardiac diseases and cardiac neurohormone — brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), which is comes from the increase load of ventricular pressure and volume. In abroad, it is reported that the pressure of atria sinistrum and ventricle, the blood pressure of pulmonary circulation and the circulating blood volume are influenced by the haemodynamic changes of the congenital heart diseases , which subsequently lead to rise of BNP. In domestic there are fewer researches on plasma BNP change in children with congenital heart diseases and its clinical significance, and there is no report on the research of relations between BNP and defect size of VSD. The increase of pressure and volume load of left and right ventricular and the contraction disable is the stimulating factors for the increase of BNP, the change of BNP in serum is probably related to the expansion of ventricular walls, which is caused by different defect size of VSD, and subsequently...
