Heart is mainly regulated by sympathetic nerve and parasympathetic nerve. Recently, researchers have detected a new kind of nerve, peptide nerve, in human heart, whose terminals could release active peptides to regulate vascular tone and cardiac activity. It was reported to play important roles in the constriction and relaxation of the coronary artery. In 1982, a new peptide, calcitonin gene-related peptide, which is an alternative transcript of the calcitonin gene, was found. It is released from capsaicin-sensitive primary sensory neurons and exists in the terminals of CGRP-immunoreactive nerve fibres which are widely distributed throughout the cardiovascular system. CGRP is an endogenous protector of cardiac muscle in human being; it also has the potent vasodilator property. But the effects of medication, particularly Chinese traditional medicine, on CGRP still remain unknown.The Qidantongmai tablet is a proved recipe that is summarized...
